Am I using my storage efficiently enough?

Data tends to grow explosively. Not just because of all the files that are created, but because copies are made of all those files for protection, compliance, disaster recovery and so on. Moreover, the vast majority of that data – around 90% even – consists of unstructured data. Often these are files that have been created once and are never used again.

In practice, only 25% of all data appears to be actively used. The rest consists of “cold data”, which remains on your valuable storage systems. If you could analyse your data for use, you could save that cold data on cheaper storage systems and the data that is used daily on fast flash storage. This saves costs and, at the same time, improves performance. DM-P is happy to show you how to do that.
